Another HUGE set coming from Flesh & Blood!

FAB: An Overlook of Part The Mistveil

Flesh and Blood is a premier Trading Card Game from New Zealand which saw its release in 2019 and has reached
impressive heights in such a short period.

The game itself boasts hundreds of thousands of active players all over the world with a large competitive scene.

Recently a new set was announced - dubbed ‘Part the Mistveil’ and is set to be released on the 31st of May,
bringing brand new additions to the game such as the new talent type, Mystic and Chi which is
exclusive to Mystic from what we can tell. The set introduces the Mystic talent, the first talented
set in a year.

The Heroes

The set is said to have 3 heroes who have been revealed, these being
Nuu, Alluring desire, a stealth based assassin who uses her opponents deck against them.
Enigma, Ledger of Ancestry, a spectral shield based illusionists who can create illusions for both
offence and defence. And Zen, Tamer of Purpose, a crouching tiger based ninja, who can
search his deck for the cards he needs to make his opponent hurt.

Chi

So far, other than the information we have on the hero cards, we have no idea what Chi does,
how it's used, how to get it or what limits it has. Other than its resemblance to the current
resource system, with a new blue colour, it is quite foreign to all Flesh and Blood players.

At the minute there are a few leading theories on how Chi is created, one of these being that
some cards instead create Chi when pitched. My worry regarding this, is it would create hands that
brick your gameplay as you may only have cards that pitch for chi and cards that need
resources to be played. Another theory which solves this problem would be that Chi can only be
generated from mystic talented cards, which would require lots of deckbuilding to find the
perfect ratio.

An interaction on this idea is that you could choose if it created chi or resource, or
if chi was able to be used as resource, but not the other way around.

Various ideas surrounding the creation of Chi have been discussed on various media sites
between FAB players, but ultimately we won't have a definitive answer on its origin until the sets
release at the end of may.

My hope is that Chi is created from mystic cards, but can be used as
a resource which bridges any problems arising from having too much of one form of resource
and not the other.

Effects On the Meta

With the recent release of Heavy Hitters, we have already seen a drastic change in meta, with
Kayo taking charge of the competition with his deadly consistency and large spike turns with the
use of bloodrush bellows. Currently decks like Kayo, Dromai, Katsu, Azalea and in this rare
instance Kano sit at the top, with Bravo and others sitting close behind.
But it is likely this will change with the new set as Heroes like Nuu make life harder for midrange
decks such as Dromai and Kayo and can really hinder the abilities of aggro.
Ninjas also have a long history of making life difficult for brutes, and it is likely Zen will be no
different, hopefully slowing Kayo's progression to the top.
Not to mention the rare instance where wizards sit near the top, unfortunately this will likely
change as Prism's emergence has made Kano’s life that much harder and it's likely a new
illusionist like Enigma will be no different when it comes to oppressing wizards.

Overall

The new set will have large effects on the world of Flesh & Blood, and hopefully create new enjoyment for
those already in the game and bring in some who haven't started yet. These changes coming to
FAB will add to it in a positive way and keep enjoyment for all formats at a high.
